What is the HOST Program?

The HOST Program creates friendships between newcomers and volunteers from local community. The program helps new immigrants adjust to life in Canada, learn about Canadian values, traditions, community resources, recreational opportunities, language training and job search resources.

To be eligible for this program you must be a Permanent Resident of Canada including:

  • Convention refugees
  • Government assisted refugees
  • Independent immigrants or family sponsored newcomers who have not yet acquired Canadian citizenship

Who are HOST Volunteers?

Volunteers can be Canadian born or former newcomers who want to pass on their experience to new arrivals. Your host will help you find your way around your new community. You will meet weekly for conversations, friendship and information sharing.

HOST group activities may include:
  • Conversation Circles
  • Homework Club
  • Sewing Club
  • Multilingual Storytelling
  • Health Circles

Please join us if you would like to become a HOST Volunteer and enhance the hopes, dreams and lives of newcomers.

  • Registration and screening process is required
  • An orientation and training session is provided
  • You are required to obtaion a police clearance
