Settlement Services for immigrants are delivered through the following two programs:

  • Immigrant Settlement and Adaptation Program (ISAP) and
  • Newcomer Settlement Program (NSP).
ISAP program is funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada.

The main objectives of the ISAP is to provide appropriate support and services for newcomers to assist in their settlement and integration in Canada as well as to help newcomers contribute to the economic, social and cultural development needs of Canada.

Eligibility criteria: permanent residents, convention refugees, live-in caregivers, in Canada applicants for permanent resident status with initial approval of application.
NSP program is funded by Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration

The main goal of the Newcomer Settlement Program is to help newcomers succeed and have the opportunity to contribute to all aspects of life in Ontario.

Eligibility criteria: applicants for refugee status, convention refugees, permanent residents, first generation Canadians.

Settlement services are delivered in various languages including: English, French, Arabic, Chinese, Croatian, Dari, Farsi, Hindi, Korean, Malay, Polish, Punjabi, Pashto, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Spanish, Swahili, Tamil, Ukrainian and Urdu.

Settlement Services include:

Information and Referral
Connecting immigrants with specific settlement needs to available resources in the community and providing practical information and guidance to assist the client in coping with the problem of everyday living. Information and referral is related to the following topics:
  • Education and training
  • Financial support programs
  • Professional licensing and trades certification
  • Legal aid and legal clinics
  • Housing and healthcare services
  • Immigration and citizenship
  • Community and recreation services

Interpretation and Translation
Facilitation interaction between the newcomer and the community and assists in the newcomers' day to day survival; Translation of documents needed to access other services, and limited to documents relating to employment, educational and legal matters that are necessary for immediate settlement; Limitation will apply to interpretation and translation services due to available resources

Assistance in decision making process and case management
Support immigrants encountering challenges in adjusting to life in Canada and assisting them in the resolution of these challenges

Employment Services
Preparing the clients to actively seek employment by assisting them in obtaining required certification of educational and/or trade documents that would facilitate job placement

Newcomer Clubs
Weekly group meetings for youth, seniors and adults with interactive discussion on topics connected to adjustment to the new environment.Childcare can be arranged for parents with children

Newcomer Resource Centres

  • Facilitator assistance with job search, resume and letter preparation, online applications
  • Connection with community, government programs and agency services;
  • Group sessions offered on settlement topics such as housing, education, training, immigration stress, healthcare, parenting, family violence, sponsoring family member and other.
  • Drop in centres with comprehensive information on settlement issues and access to resources such as computers, internet, fax, and photocopy.
