LINC classes (Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada)
Language training is designed to effectively facilitate clients' smooth transition into Canadian life by obtaining the following: language skills necessary to function on an everyday basis; to support the adaptation process; to offer broad knowledge of Canadian culture and values; to develop soft skills; and to obtain language skills for employment and academic purposes. The existing LINC curriculum guidelines are used as a main tool for teaching settlement topics essential for the clients' adaptation. In addition to a variety of settlement topics, workplace culture and communication, building/advancing life skills (critical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, networking, presentation skills) are included as part of the language instruction.
- Newcomers involved in language training modules are accepted based on CLB testing completed at the Assessment Centres.
- From Literacy level to level 8
Eligibility criteria:
Permanent residents of Canada who have not become citizens, protected persons as defined in Section 95 of IRPA, individuals who have been selected to become permanent residents and have been informed by letter from Citizenship and Immigration Canada, Convention Refugees. Client must first undergo a language assessment by a qualified assessor and be of legal school-leaving age in Ontario.
Funding source: Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada; No fees are charged from clients for services provided.
